The Vision of Thorntonius

Nine days didst Thorntonius lay on the grasses near Padan-aram.

And on the First he was Asleep.

And on the Second still he Slumbered.

But on the Third Day he didst, in his Mind, sojourn past Canaan to Eden. And in that Place he saw the First Man and his Wife as they left in Shame.

And on the Fifth Day the Nails returned unto his Head, though the Strong Widow of Castullus had once Removed them.

And on the Seventh Day the Talon Bird arrived.

And in the Talons was a Wriggling Fish, whose Name was called Zarah. On Zarah’s fin was a Scarlet Thread, like unto the thread of the Younger Twin of Firstborn Pharez, Judah’s Spawn. Zarah’s Head had an Awful Countenance, for truly it was the Face of Thorntonius.

On the Eighth Day Thorntonius Prayed to the Lord saying, “Truly LORD, I place Not myself before Thee. Together we be Not like Pharez and Zarah; you are First and I am Second and Ever Shall this be.

On the Evening of the Ninth Day, Thorntonius arose and continued on his way.
