Fightin' John's War Diaries
I am an old man now, don't even have too many of my own teeth left. Yet it seems many of you have been askin' about my experiences in World War II. As a card-carrying member of the Greatest Generation, I have been reluctant to share my "war stories", but as time goes by, I believe that you youngsters could benefit from hearing about how men of my generation grappled with the hardships of life.
Yes, I guess you'd have to call me a geezer these days, but I am mighty proud, mostly, of what I done back in the Good War. Not everthin' I done was what you might call moral, but I done my best, just like eveybody back then.
Ole Ken Burns just told a mess of tales from back then in his TV Show on the PBS, but seeing as I was from a place called Scupperton Falls and that ain't one of the 4 towns he done went to, well, he missed a lot of good stories, namely mine.
One of the damn luckiest things that ever happened to me was meeting up with this feller name of Robert Capa. You might a heard of him, took lots a good pictures of the War with his camera, including on D-Day. Thanks to Bobby, my diary here has got some pretty good pictures too! So take it for what it's worth, these are my stories, as good as I can remember them, back when I was known simply as "Fightin' John!"
